Dean Phillips Emphasizes 'Practicing Democracy' in Presidential Campaign

U.S. Representative Dean Phillips, representing Minnesota's 3rd Congressional District, has expressed that his presidential campaign journey has been profoundly rewarding. Speaking to Boston Public Radio in Manchester, New Hampshire, Phillips emphasized the value of participating in democracy, citing the enriching experiences and impactful stories he's encountered during his campaign.

Phillips, a Democrat, believes his campaign has already achieved success by actively engaging in the democratic process. He remarked, "And I showed up. And that was my mission, is to demonstrate that in this country we do not do coronations, we have competitions.”

While acknowledging his respect for President Joe Biden, Phillips expressed concerns about Biden's reelection bid, citing low approval ratings compared to other modern presidents at the same point in their terms. He stated, “I believe Americans have made up their mind: He is not electable.”

Despite recognizing his campaign as a long shot, Phillips views the New Hampshire primary as potentially the start of something significant.

Campaign Focus and Platform: Phillips' campaign has prioritized addressing the increasing costs of living in the United States, including struggles with affording heating, food, and healthcare. On immigration, Phillips has been critical of the Biden administration's handling of the southern border crisis, emphasizing the need for effective management and truthfulness about the challenges.

A recent change on his campaign website involved shifting from "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" to "Equity and Restorative Justice." Phillips explained that while he supports the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, he aims for inclusivity and clarity in his policy propositions.

Rumors have surfaced regarding billionaire Bill Ackman's influence on Phillips' campaign, particularly concerning the website change following Ackman's endorsement. However, Phillips refuted these claims, emphasizing his focus on solutions over slogans.
