Doja Cat's Family Struggles: Mother Seeks Legal Protection
The singer’s mother said Doja Cat "has experienced physical harm such as teeth being knocked out and bruises and lacerations." The judge partially granted the restraining order to the mother, but it does not include her daughter.
In a concerning family dispute, Doja Cat's mother, Deborah Sawyer, has taken legal action to protect herself and potentially her daughter, the renowned singer Doja Cat. Sawyer, 62, has filed for a temporary restraining order against her son, Raman Dalithando Dlamini, alleging physical and verbal abuse that has also reportedly affected Doja Cat.
According to the petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, has suffered significant physical harm. The alleged abuse includes severe injuries such as teeth being knocked out, along with bruises and lacerations. However, representatives for Doja Cat have not yet provided comments on the situation.
Sawyer's request to include Doja Cat in the restraining order was only partially granted by the court. The judge cited "insufficient good cause shown" for extending the protection to the singer, suggesting that Doja Cat could seek her own restraining order if necessary. A further hearing on the matter is scheduled for January 31.
The extent of the alleged abuse is detailed in the petition, claiming that Raman Dlamini has been abusive towards his mother multiple times, leading to Sawyer previously obtaining a restraining order against him in 2017. The most recent reported incident occurred on January 10, involving verbal abuse, choking, and threats of physical harm.
Additionally, Sawyer has expressed concern for her 13-year-old grandson, who has reportedly witnessed some of the alleged abuse. The identity of the teen's parents has not been disclosed in the petition.
The situation has reportedly caused Sawyer to live in "constant anxiety and fear" for her and her family's safety. She emphasizes the need for legal protection to safeguard not only against physical violence but also the considerable mental and emotional trauma being inflicted.
