Liverpool loses to Tottenham in Premier League
Joel Matip scored by mistake in the last moments as Tottenham Hotspur won 2-1 over 9 Liverpool players in the English Premier League today, Saturday.
Cody Jacobo scored the equalizer after Tottenham took the lead through Son Heung-min in the first half.
When the match appeared to be on its way to a draw, Matip accidentally put the ball into his own net, making coach Ange Postecoglou's team jump to second place with 17 points.
Liverpool has 16 points after suffering its first defeat this season, two points behind champion Manchester City and one point behind third-placed Arsenal, wasting the opportunity to top the Premier League standings.
Liverpool's Curtis Jones was sent off after VAR intervention in the 26th minute.
10 minutes later, Son took advantage of the guest team's numerical disadvantage to give Tottenham the lead.
But Jacobo equalized for Liverpool in the fourth minute of stoppage time in the first half.
Liverpool suffered another blow when Diogo Jota was sent off in the 69th minute for receiving two warnings in two minutes.
Moments before the end of the match, Matip converted a cross into his team's net, handing the victory to Tottenham.
